Corto Really Means "Short"

Sure. I noticed the Model F Olympic said "Cal 22 Corto" on the slide. Right there behind the Star trades. But that would be silly. No one makes a .22 Short pistol. And all the other Model Fs are in Long Rifle. So I ignored it.

Well, silly me. Our always astute reader, Diego Bardelli, pointed out that the specs are actually listed some places as .22 Short. Some more digging reveals that Olympic competition is in fact shot with .22 Short pistols. So... now its changed to be, I hope, more accurate. Note that like a lot of these changes, the chart of all guns by caliber will not reflect it. its a big chart, and I don't always keep it up to date. For big pages like the Model F, the page is right.

Anyway, for those who care, an outline of Olympic pistol rules:
For this event a .22-caliber (5.6 mm) pistol is used. The weight of the firearm may not exceed 1.4 kg (3.1 pounds) and the barrel length may not exceed 153 mm (6 inches). No part of the grip or accessories may enclose the hand. Only open and metallic sights are allowed. The same firearm requirements apply to the women's 25 m pistol.

Within a maximum of 120 minutes, 60 competition shots are fired at a target 50 meters (164 feet) away. The target has a center ring 50 mm (1.97 inches) in diameter. The gun must be fired, single-handed, in the standing position...

Colt and Star, Redux?

If you are an insanely astute reader (or a big Colt fan) you might know about the Model D sold briefly as the Colt Pony.

Well, it turns out something continued between Colt and Star later on. The always astute reader Diego Bardelli sent me a link to this Colt Model 30PK for sale. I can make out "Hartford" on the stamped parts, so he doesn't seem to be lying. Very, very odd indeed.

Hopefully, I'll get some more info soon about it. I am not gonna be able to afford the gun (I just gather the info, I don't collect the guns anymore), so if any of you are excited about it, by all means snap it up.
