Updates!


I have been slacking off for, well really years, and took some of this weekend to catch up. So, about 1/3rd of the total pages on the site have updates of some sort or another. Some notable changes and additions:
- A summary of the .38 super situation, and a link to the details, are on each page that discusses a 9 mm Largo gun

- There is a page for the elusive Model U, now that a reader has sent me a photo of one. It's a 7.65 mm Parabellum model P, basically, but if you know more or have one get in contact

- Much more info has been added to the corporate history page

- The Z-70 series has been split from the Z-62 page

And dozens of other updates, tweaks, fixes and so on. I'll be adding some more stuff, and cleaning up other pages over the next few days, so do tell if I missed something you've been waiting for, or broke something (links, etc.)

What is safe to shoot?


I do occasionally still get questions about what is safe to shoot in old Star pistols (those 9mm/38 marked guns).

There's always been a couple paragraphs of info up a the info and safety page but I guess it's dense and prevaricates. It's easy to get that way with safety things, and vague stuff like old guns. But now, I've added a chart that I hope helps, and will say the basics:


  1. .38 Super is between too powerful and WAY too powerful to shoot in any of those 9/38 marked guns, from anyone. It wasn't even invented back then.
  2. It's designed to shoot 9 mm Largo, and .38 ACP, or .38 Automatic (same thing, different names)
  3. You can get surplus, or new ammo, or virgin brass and make your own, for both of these cartridges, and a series of very similar ones. So there's no excuse to use the right cartridge for your pistol.




I am updating other stuff, and when it's pretty enough, I'll tell you. I also have at least two guns that are most assuredly Stars, and don't fit into anything I've ever heard of. So, expect entirely new pages sometime here; and I thought I was getting out of the "I have no idea what this gun is all about" mode. Thanks everyone for sending me more photos and questions to keep me on my toes.
